Woke up yesterday morning with a scratch in my throat and an ache in my head. Was really grouchy all morning (sorry, people at the Bean Scene: I wasn't worth much for company) and spent most of the afternoon dozing on the sofa, which as we know I do not do. And flaked out of cooking, and then didn't sleep, and worried that the cough would keep K awake, and and and.
And this morning also the throat is sore, and I'm still not reckoning to do much.
On the other hand, when a revered editor enquires about the background to a story you've submitted to a major market - and then replies promptly to your reply, and asks outright that you should make the story longer - that's quite soothing to the hitherto-fevered brow.
Except that I can't remember the last time I was asked to make something longer, and I'm not sure I know how to do it, and won't that ruin everything I liked about the story, all its side-eye allusiveness and you-don't-need-to-understand-that and...?
